CAN-EtherCAT/2-FD

The CAN-EtherCAT/2-FD is a stand-alone gateway for direct coupling of CAN FD networks to EtherCAT systems. It enables deterministic data exchange between CAN FD and EtherCAT without the need for proprietary I/O platforms or additional host systems.

The device is designed for use in industrial real-time environments, including mechanical and plant engineering as well as automated test systems. It supports efficient integration of CAN FD-based components into EtherCAT architectures. A primary application is automated testing of CAN FD-capable electronic control units (ECUs) and sensors, particularly in automotive test benches. The gateway integrates as an EtherCAT SubDevice and transfers CAN FD frames with payloads of up to 64 bytes into the EtherCAT process data with minimal latency. No external software gateways or dedicated PC hardware are required.

The CAN-EtherCAT/2-FD implements standardized subdevice functionality in accordance with ETG.5001 (Module Profile 5000). Configuration and operation are supported by common EtherCAT master systems, such as TwinCAT, esd EtherCAT MainDevice and CODESYS. This enables synchronized execution of test sequences and real-time data acquisition within the EtherCAT network.

The device provides a standards-compliant solution for coupling CAN FD communication with EtherCAT-based control and test systems. It supports flexible system integration, deterministic communication, and real-time processing requirements.
